Cuisine American
Prep Time 15 minutes
Cook Time 6 hours

Equipment

  • 1 Slow Cooker
  • 1 Immersion blender or regular blender optional

Ingredients

  • 5 pounds apples I like Gala or Honeycrisp.
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup water

Instructions

  • Peel and rough chop apples.
  • Put apples in slow cooker. Add in 1/4 cup water on top of apples
  • Add in cinnamon (or other spices. If using sugar, add in here too)
  • Cook on low heat for 6-8 hours or high heat for 4 hours. The applesauce is done when you can easily mash up your apples with a fork. If you like a chunkier sauce, simply mash up your apples and enjoy your sauce. If you desire a smooth sauce, use your immersion blender and smooth it out. If you don't have an immersion blender you can load the applesauce into a regular blender and blend to smooth.
  • Enjoy! To preserve, freeze your applesauce or waterbath can.

Notes

If you want to make variations of applesauce, add in the carrots or pears or strawberries with the apples when you start cooking the sauce.  Blend or mash them all together once everything is done cooking.  Note: strawberries tend to make your sauce runnier and carrots will make it a little bit thicker.
