Oreo truffles aka Oreo balls are an easy, no-bake candy to make. Here are 3 different ways to make them a fun Halloween treat!

I’ve never made Oreo truffles (or Oreo balls) before. I mean, I’ve eaten my fair share at family gatherings but I’ve never actually made them myself. Let me tell you what, I was pleasantly surprised by how easy they were to put together. I decided to try to make some Halloween Oreo truffles by using some Halloween/fall candy molds which are fun, but they are just as fun rolled into balls, dipped in chocolate with some candy eyes.
How to use a candy mold to make Oreo Truffles:
A candy mold is a fun alternate way to make your Oreo truffles into fun shapes. I used a skeleton one and a leaf one but really any mold will work. You want one that’s a little but deeper because we’re going to be putting chocolate in it and then the truffle dough in and then topping it with more chocolate.
- Melt white chocolate according to package directions. I like to melt mine in the microwave.
- Pour a little melted chocolate into each open spot on the mold. Tap the mold a few times to get any air bubbles out. Using a clean food paintbrush or spoon, “paint” the chocolate up the sides of the mold. Allow to dry.
- Once the chocolate is dry, press the Oreo truffle dough into the mold.
- Pour remaining white chocolate on top of the truffles to seal the spots in the mold. Run a knife or bench scraper over the chocolate to smooth out the top. Allow to dry.
- Pop truffles out of the mold and enjoy!

Notes about food coloring and chocolate:
If you want to add some food coloring to your white chocolate like I did for the leaves, you want to use oil based food coloring meant for chocolate, otherwise you’re chocolate could seize.

What are Oreo truffles made of?
Just 3 simple ingredients: crushed up Oreos, softened cream cheese and melted dipping chocolate.
How do I crush the Oreos for Oreo balls?
I used my food processor. I actually completely made the filling in my food processor-first I crushed up the Oreos and then I threw in pieces of the softened cream cheese and whirled them all together until a dough formed. It made really short work of the whole process.
However, if you don’t have a food processor, you can put your Oreos in a large ziptop bag, wrap the bag in a towel, and beat the Oreos until their crushed with your rolling pin or a hammer. It’s very satisfying. Then just use your mixer or a spoon to stir in the softened cream cheese.

How do I soften cream cheese quickly?
This recipe calls for softened cream cheese but what does that even mean and how does one soften cream cheese? It basically means that you don’t want it right out of the fridge, you want it more like room temperature. If you’re thinking ahead, you can get your cream cheese out of the fridge a couple hours before you want to make your truffles. But, if you’re like me, you decide on a whim that you’re going to make Oreo truffles and alas, your cream cheese is cold. I simply unwrap the block of cream cheese and stick it on a plate and put it in the microwave for about 20 seconds. It’s not like butter, it won’t melt into a huge puddle.
What size scoop is best for truffles and how do I roll them?
I like to use my small cookie scoop to scoop up the dough and then use my hands to roll them into a mostly nice looking ball. We’re making delicious mummy Oreo truffles, no one will care if they’re a little misshapen from being hand rolled. You don’t have a small cookie scoop? Use a tablespoon (the big spoon) out of your silverware drawer to give you about the amount of dough you need and then roll the dough into a ball with your hands like you used to when we all played with Play Doh.
Why do my Oreo balls crack?
They crack because your dough is too cold when you dip it. It’s important to chill the dough prior to rolling but let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes to prevent cracking. If they do crack, just throw them back into your melted chocolate and re-dip them or if they are already dry, when we drizzle the melted chocolate over the top of them for the mummies, the drizzled chocolate will cover the cracks and no one will even notice.

Can I dip them frozen?
Yes, in fact, if I’m not going to use all my Oreo truffle dough right away, I like to roll it into the balls, put them on a cookie sheet, freeze them, and then put the frozen balls in a freezer bag in the freezer for a later date. When I want to make them, I just pull a few out and dip them in chocolate, and we’re good to go!
However, dipping them frozen can make them crack if you aren’t careful. If you want to use frozen balls, let them sit at room temperature for a few minutes to take the chill off.
How long are Oreo truffles good for?
You can keep them in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. You can also freeze the un dipped truffles for up to 2 months.
Do I need to refrigerate them?
You should probably keep them in the refrigerator if you’re not going to serve them right away since they have cream cheese in them but you can leave them out at room temperature for a couple of hours.
Halloween Oreo Truffles
Equipment
- candy mold (optional)
- Food processor
Ingredients
- 16 Oreo cookies
- 8 ounces cream cheese softened
- 24 ounces white dipping chocolate
Instructions
- In a the bowl of a food processor, crush oreos into a powder consistency.
- Add in 8 ounces of cream cheese, I like to add it in pieces.
- Process the Oreos and cream cheese until smooth.
For The Mummy Oreo Truffles:
- Roll the Oreo truffle dough into balls. Chill in frige for at least 20 minutes or overnight.
- Melt dipping chocolate according to package directions.
- Dip Oreo balls into melted chocolate and set on wax or parchment paper to dry. Add on 2 candy eyes while chocolate is still wet.
- Once dry, take leftover melting chocolate and drizzle over the truffles to create the mummy "wraps." Allow to dry and enjoy!
For the Molded Skelton Oreo Truffles
- Melt white chocolate according to package directions.
- Pour a little melted chocolate into each open spot on the mold. Tap the mold a few times to get any air bubbles out. Using a clean food paintbrush or spoon, "paint" the chocolate up the sides of the mold. Allow to dry.
- Once the chocolate is dry, press the Oreo truffle dough into the mold.
- Pour remaning white chocolate on top of the truffles to seal the spots in the mold. Run a knife or bench scraper over the chocolate to smooth out the top. Allow to dry.
- Pop truffles out of the mold and enjoy!
For the Molded Leaf Oreo Truffles
- Melt white chocolate according to package directions.
- Add in drops of yellow, orange, red, and green oil based food coloring. With a toothpick, gently swirl the colors but don't mix in completely.
- Pour a little melted chocolate into each open spot on the mold. Tap the mold a few times to get any air bubbles out. Using a clean food paintbrush or spoon, "paint" the chocolate up the sides of the mold. Allow to dry.
- Once the chocolate is dry, press the Oreo truffle dough into the mold.
- Pour remaning white chocolate on top of the truffles to seal the spots in the mold. Run a knife or bench scraper over the chocolate to smooth out the top. Allow to dry.
